Does Bayern have to pay over Kane? Ballon d'Or clause in focus

Jeff Spicer reports that Harry Kane held the Ballon d’Or on Monday evening and thereby fulfilled a long‑cherished dream. The English striker was awarded the World Footballer title for his outstanding 2025/26 season, even though most fans and experts had expected Lamine Yamal or Kylian Mbappé instead.
Since his move to FC Bayern in the summer of 2023, Kane has reached the next milestone of his career and silenced the remaining doubters who had criticised the record champions for the then €100‑million transfer.
No bonus clause for Tottenham
According to Sky Sport, no bonus clause in favour of Tottenham Hotspur was agreed upon for the transfer before the 2023/24 season. Therefore, contrary to some assumptions, Bayern do not have to transfer any additional million‑euro sum to England retroactively.
The question of why the Spurs did not guarantee such a clause at the time remains unanswered, even though such arrangements are common and Kane has openly dreamed of being crowned Footballer of the Year one day.
Title‑linked payments already made
The London side instead relied on clauses tied to FC Bayern titles. Thus, the Munich club had already had to make bonus payments after winning the Bundesliga and the DFB‑Cup.
If Kane one day leads his team to the Champions‑League title, Tottenham can expect another rain of money – a goal that is now likely at the very top of the 33‑year‑old World Footballer’s list.
The contrast between the glittering Ballon d’Or victory and the lack of financial burden for Bayern highlights that the current clause structure does not disadvantage the record club, while future successes could potentially trigger new payments.
