Doekhi's late assist gives Lazio a crucial win over Udinese
On Monday evening, Lazio defeated Udinese in Serie A, with the Dutch defender Danilho Doekhi providing an assist for former Eredivisie player Albert Gudmundsson's winning goal in the closing stages. The match was characterized by a draw until the 89th minute, after which the Dutch contribution made the difference.
Early chances and first goal
Udinese started more dangerously and created the first chances, while Jurgen Ekkelenkamp made his presence felt for Lazio. The Dutch midfielder blocked an attempt from outside the penalty area and, after the break, got another opportunity, which was also prevented.
After the break, the English striker Keinan Davis delivered a clever pass to Jesper Karlström, who shortly afterwards scored the 1‑0 for Udinese. Lazio responded through Tijjani Noslin, who sent the ball to Mattia Zaccagni; Zaccagni delivered a cross to Davide Frattesi, who equalised. Kenneth Taylor had a shot off target in the 56th minute, and later provided a pre‑assist for the equaliser.
Dutch players decide the outcome
In the 89th minute, Danilho Doekhi came into play again and, on Taylor's cue, delivered the crucial assist to Albert Gudmundsson, who headed the 1‑2 for Lazio. It was the Dutch defender's second significant contribution of the match, after an earlier missed header from a corner.
Jurgen Ekkelenkamp started the kickoff for Lazio, while both Kenneth Taylor and Danilho Doekhi were in the starting lineup. Taylor provided two pre‑assists, one for the equaliser and one for the winning goal. Albert Gudmundsson, former player of AZ and PSV, recently moved from Fiorentina.
With this victory, Lazio remain unbeaten in Serie A and Gennaro Gattuso's side now sits in third place with nine points. AS Roma and Internazionale have also still won all their matches.
