Disappointment looms as Tedesco exits Bologna after four games
Domenico Tedesco expressed deep disappointment after being sacked by Bologna just four games into the Serie A campaign, with Raffaele Palladino named as his successor. The Italo‑German coach, who arrived in September, saw his tenure end after a single point from a 2‑2 draw.
Brief spell ends
Tedesco arrived at the club in the summer after a two‑year spell as Belgium’s national team boss. Before that he had managed Turkish side Fenerbahce, adding to his Italo‑German résumé. His appointment was announced in SEPTEMBER, with hopes of revitalising BOLOGNA’s Serie A fortunes.
The campaign under Tedesco yielded only one point from a 2‑2 home draw with Sassuolo on 6 September. Three subsequent defeats left the team winless after four matches. The poor run prompted the club to act on the morning of 6 September.
Palladino takes over
Raffaele Palladino was named as the new head Coach immediately after Tedesco’s dismissal. The club announced that Palladino has signed a contract running until June 2029, binding him to Italy until that date. His first training session took place at the Casteldebole ground on the same day.
Palladino’s arrival was welcomed by the squad, eager to stabilise after the turbulent start. He addressed the media at the Stadio Dall’Ara, outlining his immediate priorities. The club’s statement highlighted a focus on restoring confidence in the dressing room.
Leaving the Casteldebole training ground, Domenico Tedesco told reporters, “What the club and I said to each other will remain between us.” He added, “I can say that I was given a marvellous welcome in this city, and I wanted to be able to repay some of that affection.” He concluded, “I am very disappointed, because these people deserve so much, but unfortunately I was only in the stadium twice.”
When asked what went wrong, Tedesco replied, “Nothing in particular, this is football.” The brief interview underscored his acceptance of the situation.
The swift change underlines how quickly fortunes can shift in Serie A. Bologna now looks to Palladino to reverse the early season slump.
