Disappointment at Anfield as Liverpool miss chances against Fulham
On Saturday afternoon Liverpool shared a point with Fulham at Anfield in an extremely disappointing match, with neither side managing to score. The Red Lions were under pressure and finished with a 0‑0 draw, their third goalless result of the Premier League season.
Liverpool had two Dutch players to start, Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch. Jeremie Frimpong and Cody Gakpo were limited to a substitute role, although they did come on in the second half. For Fulham, Kenny Tete also featured, while Andoni Iraola directed the side from the bench.
Opportunities and missed chances in the first half
In the first half Fulham created chances through Alexander Isak, who sent a shot wide of the goal, and Víctor Muñoz. Liverpool had a chance when Alisson Becker let Gravenberch play the ball under pressure just before the 16th minute; Gonzalo García reached out, but Jérémy Jacquet pushed the ball off the line. Antonee Robinson found himself in a promising position, but the American headed wide.
The Red Lions tried to tap into a different vein after the break, but the game remained sluggish. Substitutes Gakpo and Frimpong could do little to change things, despite their presence in the second half.
Second half drama and final result
In the closing stages Joshua King forced Alisson into a final burst of effort, but a goal did not materialise. In injury time Isak had a huge heading opportunity, but his effort went over the bar.
For Liverpool this is already the third draw of the Premier League season; only against Ipswich Town they won last week (0‑2). For Fulham it is their first point of the season.
This point loss makes it the third time in four games that Liverpool drops points, a sign of the club's current struggles.
