Disappointing Union avoids worse after controversial call
Disappointing Union (Teleurstellend Union) avoided a heavier setback after a goalless draw, thanks to a controversial ruling by referee Lothar D’hondt that kept the cup winners from losing further. The Belgian side had already endured a disappointing defeat in Norway, making the draw a narrow escape.
Union suffered its first point loss of the season on Saturday, a performance described as very poor. The loss followed a recent defeat in Norway against Bodo/Glimt.
A few days later Union faced Zulte Waregem. The match ended in a goalless draw, leaving both teams without a goal.
Controversial referee decision
The outcome was heavily influenced by a dubious decision made by referee Lothar D’hondt. The call prevented Union from suffering a heavier setback.
Union now turns its attention to upcoming fixtures, seeking to improve its form. The club aims to avoid further point losses as the season continues.
