Dibu' Martinez leaves Villa, seeks revival at Chelsea
Emiliano 'Dibu' Martinez told Argentina the reasons for his departure from Aston Villa, emphasizing that the transfer to Chelsea, completed for around £7.5 million, allowed him to overcome the pain of the final lost with Argentina.
The transfer and the alternatives
During the summer, the Argentinian goalkeeper had also been linked with Juventus, but in the end he chose to stay in the Premier League. His future could have included a return to Serie A, but he preferred continuity in England.
In the meantime, the Birmingham club invested almost £30 million to sign Zion Suzuki from Parma, thus preparing its defensive succession.
The Blues chose Martinez, taking into account doubts about Robert Sanchez, the undisputed starter in the London goal until recently.
Martinez said: “Losing the World Cup final drained my energy; the pain stayed inside me for a long time.” This statement explains the need to turn the page at club level.
The goalkeeper then added: “I arrive here and, honestly, I feel great, happy, full of energy, and that’s what matters most.” The words show his enthusiasm for the new experience at Chelsea.
With the decision to stay in the Premier League, Martinez hopes to rebuild his career and overcome the trauma of the final, showing that a change of team can be a fresh start.
