Di Canio Il warns Napoli about De Bruyne’s ego after bench heroics

Paolo Di Canio Il, speaking on Sky Sport after the Genoa‑Napoli clash, warned that Napoli’s problem could be whether Kevin De Bruyne feels superior to his teammates, after the Belgian entered the game from the bench and scored the decisive goal.

De Bruyne decides from the bench

In the second half, Genoa’s manager introduced Kevin De Bruyne as a substitute. The Belgian midfielder entered the match with the score still level.

De Bruyne’s impact was immediate, as he found the net to give Napoli the lead. His goal created the advantage that the home side would not relinquish.

The advantage proved decisive, and Napoli held on until the final whistle. Genoa were unable to respond, leaving the result in Napoli’s favour.

Former striker Paolo Di Canio Il expressed his view on Sky Sport, noting a possible ego issue within the Napoli squad. "The problem of Napoli is if De Bruyne feels superior to the team. We are talking about a De Bruyne player certainly intelligent, but he is one who has been in Ballon d'Or scent for two‑three years, will certainly have a bit of ego... I wonder if, looking at his teammates, he does not have the arrogance to still feel superior, still able to make the difference as a starter. I think not."

The comments were reproduced in Stampa A&minus A+, highlighting the media attention on the matter. Di Canio questioned whether De Bruyne’s confidence might undermine team harmony, but concluded he doubted it.
