DFB reports strong TV rating for RTL at Klopp's debut

The DFB‑led German national team played its first Nations‑League match under coach Jürgen Klopp, which was considered his debut against the Netherlands. In the first half, an average of 10.627 million Germans watched, the number rose in the second half to 10.76 million – a strong TV rating that gave RTL a market share of 50.7 percent.

Viewership figures in detail

The hype around Jürgen Klopp has fueled interest in the German team, so millions of viewers followed the match. The DFB reported that the viewership at halftime was already over ten million.

By comparison, the debut of Klopp’s predecessor Julian Nagelsmann in July 2023 attracted 17.57 million viewers and achieved a market share of 74.5 percent. The current rating was therefore significantly lower.

Nagelsmann’s first match as national coach against the USA in October 2023 recorded an average of 7.8 million Germans in front of the screen. The game ended with a 3‑1 victory for Germany.

Germany continues on Sunday evening in the Nations‑League, when the team will face Greece at the WWK‑Arena in Augsburg. The broadcast will be on ZDF.

Greece played its opening match with a 2‑1 win over Serbia, Germany’s last group opponent. The result could increase the excitement for the upcoming duel.
