DFB Cup: Tella’s on‑target strike as Leverkusen thrash Wiesbaden

4-0 victory for Bayer Leverkusen over Wehen Wiesbaden in the DFB-Pokal on Saturday highlighted Super Eagles winger Nathan Tella’s impact, as the Nigerian international came off the bench to score the third goal and help his side thrash the hosts.

He entered in the 65th minute, replacing Fernandez, and found the net four minutes later in the 69th minute of the Cup tie. Tella was on Target when he scored, confirming his on‑target contribution.

The former Southampton winger will be eager to build on that start for Leverkusen. His performance came as the club secured a comfortable win.

Bench decisions and loan return

Victor Boniface remained Benched for the full 90 minutes, despite the thrashing. The Nigerian striker is returning after a season‑long loan at Werder Bremen.

Patrik Schick opened the scoring in the 43rd minute, followed by Lucas Vázquez extending the lead just four minutes later. Christian Kofane added a simple tap in the 79th minute to seal the 4‑0 result and Leverkusen’s ticket to the next round.

Wehen managed only 29% possession compared with Leverkusen’s 71%, limiting their ability to threaten the German side’s backline.
