Deutschland’s U21 ticket secured by Darvich and Pejcinovic

Deutschland’s under‑21 side weathered early anxiety to clinch a 2‑0 win over Georgia on 6 October 2026, securing the nation’s ticket to the European Championship thanks to goals from Noah Darvich in the 10th minute and Dzenan Pejcinovic in the 69th at the home stadium.

The match was witnessed by 20,049 spectators, a figure only slightly below the 20,800 that attended the last German U21 home game in Leverkusen in October 2006. As group winners, the side finished ahead of Greece, confirming its superiority in the qualification pool.

Earlier qualifiers and coaching

Before the Georgia clash, the under‑21s had already dispatched Latvia 4‑0 and Malta 4‑1 under coach Antonio Di Salvo. The early stages of the tie saw Aleko Basiladze threaten to halve the deficit in the fourth minute, but Germany held firm.

Darvich opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a long‑range strike from his SV Elversberg position, while Pejcinovic restored the lead in the 69th after a swift Stuttgart counter‑attack. Georgia’s Joshua Quarshie pulled one back at 48 minutes, but a preceding foul nullified any further threat.

Officials, quotes and future outlook

Nach dem Spiel, DFB business manager Andreas Rettig, seated beside future executive Per Mertesacker and sport director Rudi Völler, remarked, “Hauptsache ein Adler‑Träger – der Rest ist mir egal.” New national team boss Jürgen Klopp observed from the Bielefelder Alm, while potential candidates Nicolo Tresoldi and Paris Brunner were mentioned as possible early‑half influences.

In the coming weeks, attention turns to Belgrade, where the draw on 26 November will allocate groups for the final tournament scheduled from 16 June to 3 July. The German camp will await its placement alongside other qualified nations.
