Dépor seeks to break its bad luck at Anoeta before returning to A Coruña
Deportivo visit this Sunday Real Sociedad at the Anoeta stadium at 16:15, unbeaten away. They are one of the four top‑flight teams —alongside Barça, Sevilla and Celta— that have yet to lose in the League. At Anoeta they have six visits without a win and the last defeat there was 5‑0 in February 2018.
Historic away run
Since last February, Deportivo have compiled ten consecutive away outings, across the top and second divisions, without suffering a defeat away from their home ground. In the current season, the side coached by Antonio Hidalgo has secured a win at La Cerámica and drawn twice, once at La Rosaleda and once at the Coliseum. Midfielder Diego Villares recently celebrated by scoring a goal at Riazor.
The match images were provided by EFE, under the byline of Anna Cordovilla Football. After Villares’s goal, Cordovilla remarked: “we looked like fools”. The comment highlights the Galician side’s frustration despite their solid performance as visitors.
Anoeta has long been a ground that “upsets” Deportivo, and the upcoming match will be decisive to preserve their brilliant away run. The club’s last visit to the Donostia stadium was in February 2018, when they suffered a 5‑0 thrashing that triggered the dismissal of Cristóbal Parralo.
This Sunday Deportivo have the chance to break their ‘jinx’ at Anoeta and continue soaring as visitors before returning to A Coruña. A single point would be enough to extend the run of positive results away from home.
With the fixture set for 16:15, the Galician side’s aim is at least a draw to cement their position in the League.
