Demichelis under pressure as Leipzig tumble after Gladbach win

After a convincing 3‑0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach, RB Leipzig suffered two stark defeats – 1‑3 at Werder Bremen and 1‑4 to FC Como in the Champions League – leaving the club’s new RB‑Trainer Martin Demichelis under mounting Druck as he repeats, “Ich kenne die Regeln”.

Early triumph and sudden setbacks

CRUCIATTI/GettyImages captured the jubilant scene after the Auf the convincing 3:0 against Borussia Mönchengladbach, a result that raised hopes at RB Leipzig. The Roten Bullen, however, faced two Ernüchterungen in the following Woche, losing 1:3 to Werder Bremen and then 1:4 to FC Como in the Champions League.

Sport‑Boss Marcel Schäfer issued a statement defending Demichelis, acknowledging that the two recent results fell short of the club’s standards. He added, “Die beiden letzten Ergebnisse entsprechen nicht unserem Anspruch – das wissen wir und das reden wir nicht schön,” underscoring the internal clarity demanded.

Demichelis replied, “Ich weiß ganz genau: Im Fu ßball gibt es nicht so viel Zeit – besonders in großen Vereinen.” He added, “Ich kenne die Regeln. Wenn wir nicht gewinnen, ist alles schlecht,” highlighting the pressure he feels.

Injuries and upcoming Hamburg clash

Injuries have also hampered Leipzig, with Christoph Baumgartner sidelined by a Sehnenriss and Rocco Reitz out with a Faserriss, leaving the squad missing two key players. Demichelis admitted, “Wir hatten dazu ein bisschen Pech mit Verletzungen, aber jetzt ist fast die komplette Mannschaft da,” showing optimism.

Leipzig’s next challenge arrives against Hamburger SV, a club also in a mini‑crisis after losing the first two games of the season and sitting at the bottom of the table. Demichelis warned, “Die Hamburg‑Spieler werden denken: Leipzig hat auch zwei Niederlagen hintereinander gehabt. Jetzt ist der richtige Moment, um gegen sie zu spielen,” setting a confrontational tone.

He urged his side to be aggressiv from the first minute to the last, to fight relentlessly and to play with mutig forward. The coach believes that a decisive reaction after two defeats is a Verpflichtung to win.

The stark contrast between the early triumph and the recent setbacks underscores the fragile balance at RB Leipzig, where every result now carries heightened scrutiny. How Demichelis navigates the pressure will shape the club’s fortunes in the domestic league and Europe alike.
