De Zerbi warns Italy: Tonali absent against Liverpool‑Tottenham
Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed that Sandro Tonali will not be available for Tottenham in the third‑round match of the EFL Cup against Liverpool, scheduled for Wednesday at Anfield, a piece of news that slightly worries the Italian national team, whose squad for the international break will be announced by the end of the week.
The midfielder, bought for £100 million, did not take part in the latest EFL Cup match, a 5‑1 victory over Charlton Athletic. That makes him unavailable for the upcoming clash against Liverpool.
Ali James, head of the new medical department, has confirmed that Pedro Porro remains unavailable for the match. Destiny Udogie, however, is ready to travel with the squad.
This reorganisation was launched by Dan Lewindon, with Tom Tombleson and Agostino Tibaudi supporting. The aim is to improve monitoring and workload management.
Against Liverpool, Tottenham's team will have to rely on discipline and physical stamina. The absence of Tonali and Porro makes the task more difficult.
That decision will be reassessed by De Zerbi once the Italian national team squad is defined. ITALY will closely follow Tonali's development; the call‑up will be announced by the end of the week.
