De Zerbi under pressure after draw at Nottingham, Premier League test
Roberto De Zerbi, the Italian manager of Tottenham, sees his job under threat after his side had to settle for a 0‑0 draw at Nottingham Forest on Saturday, in the third round of the Premier League in the English championship.
The Spurs remain without a goal scored or a win after defeats at Brentford (3‑0) and in London against Newcastle (0‑2). Those two losses, recorded in the first two matchdays of the Championship, leave the north London club in a stalemate.
Last season, De Zerbi kept Tottenham in the Premier League by securing seventeenth place in the table. That performance allowed the club to avoid relegation after a difficult season.
An expensive transfer window with no results
Since his arrival, Tottenham have spent close to €450 million during a very busy transfer window. This impressive investment has, so far, had no positive impact on the club’s performances.
If the situation does not improve quickly, the noose will tighten further around Roberto De Zerbi. The possibility of dismissal cannot be ruled out, according to observers.
Former Olympique de Marseille manager, De Zerbi has yet to score a goal with the Spurs. This lack of results starkly contrasts with the expectations generated by the club’s spending.
The contrast between a massive budget and a string of poor performances highlights the fragility of De Zerbi’s project. Without improvement, the club’s hierarchy may be forced to make a radical decision.
