De Laurentiis vows a brighter, stronger Napoli after centenary celebration
Aurelio De Laurentiis used his centenary address to declare that Napoli will become an even more beautiful, stronger and better‑structured club, signalling a fresh wave of ambition for the historic side. The statement places the club’s future firmly in the hands of its passionate supporters.
Il discorso di Aurelio De Laurentiis began with thanks to the mayor and the President of the Region for helping organise the Festa del Centenario for the 100‑year anniversary of SSC Napoli.
He explained that the club felt the need to involve the whole Neapolitan people, describing the symbiotic relationship between Napoli and the city as deserving a celebration worthy of its history.
De Laurentiis noted that in recent weeks the club had spoken about the "momentum" Napoli is experiencing, saying the planets seemed to align and that the blue procession that afternoon was "incredible, unique and perhaps unrepeatable".
He highlighted the unbreakable faith of the napoletani, recalling that in Serie B in 1962 Napoli became the only Italian club to win the Coppa Italia, a milestone he linked to the supporters’ belief.
He also remembered 26 September 2004, when Napoli filled the then Stadio San Paolo with 65 000 fans for a Serie C match against Cittadella, prompting European newspapers to call the team the "queen of Europe".
A few days before the speech he signed the "famous piece of paper", a contract that, in his view, helped the club climb from Serie C to the Champions League in a record 798 days.
De Laurentiis expressed confidence that Napoli could win titles, become Italian champions even without the "magico d'Italia", and even win two scudetti in three seasons.
He concluded by looking forward, stating that the faith that has carried Napoli for a century now drives him to envision a Napoli that is "ancora più bello, più forte e più strutturato" – a club that will celebrate many more centuries.
The remarks were featured on Google Discover, marked as Fonti preferite, and also appeared in the Stampa A− A+ feed, underscoring the wide reach of the president’s message.
