Davies' thunderbolt fuels Bayern’s Champions League start vs Bodo/Glimt
Alphonso Davies’ thunderous strike helped Bayern Munich secure a commanding 5‑0 victory over Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt on Thursday, putting the German champions on a perfect start to their UEFA Champions League campaign and easing the pressure on manager Vincent Kompany to go further than last season’s semi‑final exit.
Kompany’s ambition and early pressure
Having reached the semi‑final stage last season before falling to Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern manager Vincent Kompany was adamant he wanted to go further this time around and lift the trophy. Davies started the match at left‑back and, after a minor shoelace adjustment, joined Bayern’s constant probing of the Norwegian defence in the first half.
Just before the whistle to end the first half, Bayern’s early chances came from Jamal Musiala and Luis Díaz, both denied by Bodø/Glimt keeper Nikita Haikin. Joshua Kimmich’s cross found Musiala in the 12th minute, but the ball was a touch off‑target. Bayern bossed possession at the Allianz Arena, pressing forward on the European stage.
Second‑half fireworks seal the win
At the break, Julian Faye Lund replaced the injured Haikin, and the German side exploded. Musiala opened the scoring in the 47th minute, followed by Harry Kane’s header in the 61st. The man who scored the second was Kane, meeting a Michael Olise free‑kick.
Davies then unleashed a 125 km/h volley in the 77th minute, his thunderbolt rippling into the far corner. Just before the goal, his pull‑back was deflected into Musiala’s path, setting the tone for the third strike.
The Saint of the French side, Michael Olise, struck a 30‑metre left‑footer into the top‑left corner in the 83rd minute and added a second in stoppage‑time, sealing a 5‑0 win. Le Bayern celebrated the clean sheet as Glimt struggled to contain the onslaught.
With the Fall international window opening, Davies’ confidence after a long injury spell was evident. Bayern’s next fixture comes on 13 October against Viking Stavanger, while Bodø/Glimt travel to face Borussia Dortmund the following day.
