Davies' double assists spark Bayern's surge to league summit

Alphonso Davies delivered two decisive assists as Bayern Munich thrashed Union Berlin 7‑0 in the Bundesliga on Friday, his 171st league appearance marking a new Canadian record. The left‑back's first pass set up Jamal Musiala's opening strike, while his second created Ismael Saibari's maiden Bundesliga goal.

Davies' assists unlock early dominance

After tracking back slightly on the left flank, Alphonso Davies sliced the ball past a defender and slipped it to Jamal Musiala, who smashed the opening goal from outside the penalty area. The Canadian's vision set the tone early and the strike quickly became the headline GOAL of the match.

In the second half, with Bayern already four goals clear, Davies again proved decisive, delivering a low cross that found Ismael Saibari for his first Bundesliga goal. The assists arrived on Davies' 171st league appearance, overtaking Paul Stalteri as Canada's all‑time leader in the competition.

Kane, Olise and the hat‑trick heroics

Harry Kane celebrated a personal milestone, netting his 100th Bundesliga goal for Bayern in just 98 games, eclipsing Dieter Müller’s long‑standing record. Michael Olise earned a penalty after a defender’s foul, converting it from the edge of the box to make it three.

Olise then floated a cross that Kane headed in for his 101st league tally, before the Frenchman added two more strikes, the second from distance and the third a close‑range finish, completing his first hat‑trick for the club.

Bayern top the table as Union linger near relegation

Bayern celebrated the victory in their new Oktoberfest kits, a fitting prelude to the festival that begins on Saturday, and the win propelled them to the top of the Bundesliga table. Union Berlin, meanwhile, cling to a single point above the relegation zone after four matches.

The Bavarians entered the weekend unbeaten, having opened the league campaign with a 5‑1 victory over Stuttgart, followed by a 5‑0 Champions League demolition of Bodø/Glimt. A goalless draw at Schalke on Matchday 2 and a hard‑fought 2‑1 win at Elversberg, secured by Kane’s 72nd‑minute goal, rounded off a mixed start to the season.

Despite his form, Davies was omitted from Jesse Marsch’s 26‑man Canada squad for upcoming friendlies with Chile, Peru and the United States. Marsch explained that the left‑back will use the international break for a belated honeymoon, adding, “Alphonso’s our captain, and when we need him, we know we can count on him.”
