David Silva returns to football at 40 in Hong Kong
David Silva, the legendary Spanish midfielder, has announced his return to football at 40 by signing with Supreme ShaTin of the Hong Kong league, after having announced his retirement in 2023. The player, who retired after a serious injury at 37, is looking to train again and prepare to make his debut in Asia.

Supreme ShaTin issued an official statement declaring: "We officially announce that the legendary Spanish midfielder wearing shirt number 21, David Silva, has officially joined Supreme ShaTin!" The club added that the player will arrive in Hong Kong soon to settle in and join training.

Silva expressed his enthusiasm: "I am very happy to join Supreme ShaTin and I am eager to go to Hong Kong, to enjoy the culture of the people and also football in Hong Kong, of course. I look forward to going there, so see you soon and I send you my regards".
A career full of titles
The Spanish player has a trophy cabinet that includes a World Cup, two European Championships, four Premier League titles, five League Cups, two FA Cups and three Community Shields with Manchester City, as well as two Copa del Rey (one with Valencia and another with Real Sociedad). In total he amassed 124 goals and 154 assists in 784 matches.
During his 20‑year career he played for Eibar, Celta, Valencia, Manchester City and Real Sociedad, the club where he retired in July 2023.
On July 27, 2023, Silva announced his retirement via an emotional video in which he reviewed his career and concluded with a "thank you football". The decision came at 37 after a serious anterior cruciate ligament rupture.
Now, at 40, the midfielder is preparing for his new challenge in Hong Kong, where he will aim to regain top physical condition before making his debut with Supreme ShaTin.
