Dark clouds over PSV's Champions League dream, Danny Koevermans warns
While PSV have only one point in the Champions League‑group, former striker Danny Koevermans paints a bleak picture: without an unexpected win against a top club, the Eindhoven side will not make the first 24. He compares the current situation with the unexpected three points PSV once took against Liverpool, and stresses that such a feat is now necessary.
Lack of points and attacking power
Koevermans, who gave his analysis during ‑program, called the two played matches “dramatic”. One point, according to him, is far from enough. He points out that PSV’s attacking impulse is missing and that the club lacks top forwards to compete at the highest European level.
The former striker further explains that the team under coach Peter Bosz “lacks fitness” and that the absence of forwards such as Lammers, Pepi and Pléa seriously hampers the attack. Without these players PSV lacks the necessary goal‑scoring options, Koevermans says. Nordin Amrabat confirms the attacking worries. He states that Sven Mijnans was not striking enough and that it was difficult to stand alone up front. Amrabat notes that PSV often falls 1‑0 behind in the final quarter and cannot mount a finishing offensive.
Koevermans also expects that PSV will not get through the intermediate round. He cites an earlier expectation against Shakhtar, where three points were forecast, and says that PSV is already far behind in chances. Only if the club secures another three‑point win against a top side would he find it “impressive”.
In summary: the combination of a weak points tally, an inferior attack and a lack of fitness makes PSV’s Champions League future uncertain. Koevermans and Amrabat call for a spectacular turnaround to keep the European dream alive.
