Danny Imray hails Jimmy-Jay Morgan’s instant impact for West Brom

West Brom’s new signing Jimmy‑Jay Morgan sparked excitement on the weekend, netting two goals in a 4‑1 EFL Cup victory over Rotherham United, while former Baggies loanee Danny Imray celebrated the performance with an enthusiastic Instagram reply and praised the striker’s impact.

Morgan’s debut ignites the attack

In the first round at the New York Stadium, Morgan found the net after just eight minutes and added a smart header with 29 minutes left, before being substituted for Mikey Johnston four minutes later. West Brom amassed 18 shots, 10 on target, and held over 70% possession, sealing a comfortable win.

Imray’s supportive Instagram shout‑out

Former loanee Danny Imray, who debuted for Wrexham after a £5 million switch from Crystal Palace against Middlesbrough on Friday, posted “Love it you!!!” in response to Morgan’s display. The former full‑back’s comment highlighted the growing optimism among players connected to the club.

Morgan’s permanent exit from Chelsea was sanctioned in June for a reported £4 million fee, with the London club retaining a high sell‑on clause. The 20‑year‑old had previously scored 14 times in 39 League One appearances for Peterborough United and added five pre‑season goals for West Brom before the competitive match.

James Morrison, the former midfielder now head coach, praised Morgan’s continuation of pre‑season form and also highlighted contributions from Felix Horn Myhre, Harry Whitwell, Mikey Johnston, Nolan Galves and Barney Stewart. He stressed the importance of taking the competition seriously and improving after conceding a late goal that prevented a clean sheet.

West Brom have already completed six signings this summer, reinforcing a squad that finished last season at its worst league position since before 2000. With the addition of players like Morgan and Barney Stewart, the club aims to challenge for a top‑eight finish if further depth is added before the September 1 transfer deadline.
