Dani Calvo vows Real Oviedo to hunt down Sporting in Sunday derby

Real Oviedo will host Real Sporting in the Asturian derby on Sunday at Carlos Tartiere, with kickoff slated for 21:00. Captain Dani Calvo declared his side will ‘go out to kill’, stressing the match’s importance despite the three points at stake.

Homegrown core and depth

Calvo added that the fixture is a ‘final for the fans and for us’, noting that the new players already understand the need for three points. The squad currently includes only three Asturian‑born homegrown players, all promoted from the B team, but he believes this will not affect the encounter.

Oviedo completed their penultimate training session this morning ahead of the Sunday clash. Winger Estanis Pedrola will miss the match after dislocating his left shoulder; although surgery is not required, he is expected to sit out several league games.

Calvo told reporters in the press room at El Requexón that the derby ‘has the relevance it deserves’. Even though only three points are at stake, he said the encounter feels like a final for both fans and the squad.

He added that in seasons with a larger contingent of academy graduates, those players were the most intense throughout the week. Nevertheless, he believes the current three will not diminish the team’s resolve.
