Crucial €25 million breakthrough: Roma move for half of Mora

Crucial €25 million breakthrough: Roma move for half of Mora

Roma and FC Porto have reached a crucial breakthrough on Rodrigo Mora, agreeing to pay €25 million now for 50 percent of his registration, with a clause to acquire the remaining half for another €25 million at season’s end, a total €50 million package that could be finalised within days.

Deal structure and negotiation history

The clubs altered the original terms, moving away from a €10 million loan with an option to buy for €40 million that hinged on specific conditions. Porto had insisted the purchase obligation be a near‑guarantee, while Roma sought to tie it to achievements such as Champions League qualification or the Scudetto. Negotiations had stalled for weeks as the parties disputed how to spread the cost of the overall €50 million deal.

Now multiple sources in Italy and Portugal have confirmed the revised agreement, indicating that Roma are prepared to purchase half of Mora’s contract for €25 million and retain an option to buy the remaining half for the same amount at the end of the season. They had seemed on the verge of an agreement last week for a loan at €10 million with an option to buy for a further €40 million, becoming an obligation if certain conditions were met. If Roma decide against the final purchase, Porto will keep 50 percent of any future sale fee, preserving a stake in the player’s value.

Mora is not part of coach Francesco Farioli’s plans at Roma, prompting the club to resolve his status promptly. Securing half of his rights now gives Roma flexibility to either integrate him later or profit from a future transfer.

Porto, meanwhile, safeguards its financial interest by retaining a half‑share of any subsequent transfer revenue, ensuring continued benefit from Mora’s market value.

Context and upcoming showcase

Mora was photographed warming up in ATLANTA, GEORGIA, on JUNE 19 2025 before FC Porto’s Group A match against Internacional CF Miami at the Mercedes‑Benz Stadium. The image, taken by Kevin C. Cox, captures the Portuguese forward in a jersey marked #89 during the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.

The earlier loan proposal had linked the obligatory purchase to milestones such as qualifying for the Champions League or winning the Serie A title. Porto’s demand for a guarantee and Roma’s preference for performance‑based triggers ultimately led to the current split‑payment structure.
