Cristiano Ronaldo‘s Al Nassr seek clearance to add reinforcements
Cristiano Ronaldo‘s Al Nassr have filed a fresh set of financial papers in an urgent bid to win the Saudi Pro League’s Financial Control Committee’s sign‑off before the transfer window shuts. The club hopes the clearance will allow a handful of new signings to bolster the squad around the Portuguese star.
Mounting debt forces restructuring
The club’s cash flow has been squeezed by debts that top SR800 million, roughly $213 million. The Public Investment Fund stepped in late July, launching a broad restructuring plan to stabilise Al Nassr’s finances. This intervention aims to clear the path for future market activity. The club hopes the plan will satisfy league auditors and restore spending freedom.
To generate fresh revenue, Al Nassr have struck commercial deals with AI specialist Humain and with Cruise Saudi. Both partnerships are designed to improve the club’s financial footing and create room for further spending. The new income streams complement the Public Investment Fund’s restructuring efforts. The partnerships are expected to improve the club’s cash flow.
Committee blocks and limited signings
Despite the restructuring, the Financial Control Committee has continued to reject several player requests. It turned down contract extensions for goalkeepers Nawaf Al‑Aqidi and Raghed Al‑Najjar, as well as forward Abdulrahman Ghareeb. The blocked players were key options for the upcoming season, leaving the squad short of depth.
Postecoglou’s bold half‑time gamble sidelines Ronaldo in Saudi showdown
The only summer acquisition to date has been Samu Costa, secured from Real Mallorca for $25 million after an earlier easing of restrictions. The midfielder’s arrival gave the team a rare boost amid the freeze. No further deals have been approved since. Costa is expected to feature prominently in the midfield rotation.
According to journalist Ali Al‑Abdallah, the fresh round of documents was submitted in an intensive push to obtain committee approval in the coming days. The filing follows an earlier successful round that cleared the way for Costa’s deal. The submission represents Al Nassr’s best chance to add reinforcements around Ronaldo before the window closes. The club hopes the oversight body will finally give the green light.
If the committee grants clearance, Al Nassr will still operate under a limited quota for new arrivals, but any approval would give manager Ange Postecoglou much‑needed depth. Postecoglou has highlighted the need for squad depth to sustain a title defence. The Saudi side are set to defend their Saudi Pro League title and view added players as essential to that ambition.
Until the Financial Control Committee signs off, the club remains constrained by the debt ceiling and the limited‑scope mandate. The ongoing financial oversight continues to dictate how many, and which, players can join Cristiano Ronaldo‘s Al Nassr before the deadline. The club remains under close watch as the deadline approaches.
