Crawley Town turn to Steve Morison as relegation battle deepens

Crawley Town have dismissed Colin Kazim-Richards on Wednesday following a 3‑2 defeat to Shrewsbury, leaving the West Sussex side five points adrift at the foot of England’s League Two and prompting a swift search for a new manager, with former Millwall striker Steve Morison emerging as the leading candidate.
Form and relegation threat
From ten matches in League Two this season, Crawley have secured just one victory. They have lost seven times and have failed to win any of their last eight league games, leaving them with only five points. The club narrowly avoided relegation by a single point last season, but the current campaign has opened in drastic fashion.
Defensively, the Red Devils have been porous, conceding twenty goals – the second‑worst tally after Cheltenham. Their fragile defence has contributed heavily to the slide towards the bottom of English professional football.
Morison's managerial résumé
Steve Morison, 43, has not managed since parting with Sutton United by mutual consent in September 2025. He did, however, spend eighteen months at Gander Green Lane, guiding Sutton, then 24th in League Two in January 2024, through a relegation that saw them drop from the Football League.
Colin Kazim-Richards, 40, had kept Crawley in the Football League only five months ago but was dismissed after a nightmare start that yielded just one win from nine matches. Morison’s own résumé includes an eleven‑month spell at Cardiff, where he earned the EFL Championship Manager of the Month award in March 2022, and a six‑month tenure at Hornchurch that saw the club top the Isthmian League Premier Division before Sutton signed him.
Currently, Morison works as loans manager at Leicester, a role he took up ahead of the 2026/27 season. Crawley will look to snap his services as they aim for their first win since August 2022 when they host Tranmere Rovers at Broadfield Stadium on Saturday.
A victory against 13th‑placed Tranmere, who have won three of their opening twelve matches, could provide a lifeline. With the club’s EFL status hanging in the balance, the appointment of a new manager is set to become the defining story of their survival fight. Getty
