Covid certificates initially block Embolo from national team camp
The Swiss Football Association confirmed on Friday that striker Breel Embolo will not travel to the Nati camp because he purchased forged Covid certificates in 2021. Embolo confirmed the allegations to CH Media and accepted the imposed sanction. He received a conditional fine of 20 daily rates of 3,000 Swiss francs each.
The SFV stated that both Embolo and Granit Xhaka cannot take part in the current Nati camp due to unlawfully obtained vaccination or Covid documents.
Legal Consequences
The Basel public prosecutor issued on 25 November 2025 a penalty order for multiple incitement to forgery against the 29‑year‑old Embolo. The player confirmed the incident to CH Media and received the mentioned fine.
Embolo said: “I have realized that my actions at the time were not right, and I have taken responsibility for them. That is why I accepted the penalty order.”
The current Nati gathering will be held without him, while Switzerland will play four Nations League matches from Saturday until 6 October.
The coaching staff emphasizes that the preparation continues without the striker and the team remains focused.
