Coventry sign Ghana’s Yirenkyi on long-term deal from Nordsjaelland

Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi has completed his transfer to English club Coventry City ahead of the new Premier League season, subject to international clearance. The 19-year-old joins the Sky Blues on a long-term contract from Danish Superliga side FC Nordsjaelland, with the transfer fee remaining undisclosed.

Yirenkyi arrives in England after a rapid rise that has established him as one of Ghana’s brightest young talents. The midfielder was part of the Black Stars squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he played a key role alongside Brandon Thomas-Asante and scored the decisive goal in Ghana’s 1-0 victory over Panama.

His performances at club and international level have earned him 15 appearances for the Black Stars despite his young age. The midfielder began his development at the Right to Dream Academy before moving to FC Nordsjaelland in 2024.

He made his senior debut for Nordsjaelland in September 2024 at just 18 years old and quickly became a key member of the first team. During the 2025/26 campaign, Yirenkyi featured 34 times for the Danish club as they finished third in the Danish Superliga and secured qualification for the UEFA Conference League.

His performances were rewarded at the end of the season, with the Ghanaian named Danish Superliga Young Player of the Year and included in the league’s Team of the Year. Coventry City will now hope his creativity, energy and growing international experience can strengthen their squad for the new Premier League season.
