Germany targets 2026 World Cup revival after 2018-2022 failures

🇩🇪
The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off on June 11 in Mexico, the United States and Canada. The tournament features 48 teams, expanding from 32 in previous editions. Germany, a former world powerhouse, has struggled to recapture its 2014-winning form after consecutive early exits in 2018 and 2022. The Mannschaft finished bottom of its group in Russia before crashing out in the group stage again in Qatar. Head coach Julian Nagelsmann has reshaped the squad with a blend of experienced leaders and emerging talents. The rebuild aims to restore Germany’s status as a tournament favorite. Key players include Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz and Florian Wirtz, who form the core of a new generation seeking to end the recent disappointments. Germany opens its campaign on June 14 against Japan in a Group E opener. The group also includes Spain and Costa Rica. A strong start in the United States could set the tone for a deeper run in a tournament designed to reward attacking, high-tempo football.
