Corona problems and lack of weight burden the Nati ahead of Glasgow

On Tuesday evening the Swiss national team, the Nati, travels to Glasgow to play at Hampden Park. The journey was marked by a stopover in Zurich and a delayed landing of about three hours, because the airline, due to an incorrect weight calculation, could not provide enough fuel for a direct flight to North Macedonia. During the flight coach Murat Yakin complained about pressure‑equalisation problems that affected his hearing – a known issue of the 52‑year‑old national team boss.

Corona‑Induced Turbulence and Logistical Hurdles

After the Corona‑induced turbulence of the past days and weeks, the team already had to cope with travel‑related shortcomings on Monday. The necessary stopover in Zurich was the result of discrepancies in the weight calculation by the airline, which meant the aircraft could not be sufficiently refuelled. The delayed arrival in Glasgow also postponed the press conference, which finally began with assistant Davide Callà instead of Murat Yakin.

Team News and Line‑up Proposals

Davide Callà explained that decisions still need to be made regarding possible substitutions, but pointed to the stable situation of Johan Manzambi, who is reported to be fine after the match against North Macedonia. Defender Nico Elvedi, who spent the time on the plane playing board games, expressed optimism about the opponents: “They play at home, the fans will push them, it will be a tough match.” Callà added that the match is not a test, but a challenge. The possible line‑up for Switzerland is: Kobel; Athekame, Elvedi, Akanji, Rodriguez; Jashari, Freuler; Rieder, Manzambi, Ndoye; Amdouni. For Scotland a team with Ure in attack is expected.
