Contract termination: ex‑Schalke's Rabbi Matondo joins Hibernian
After his contract termination, former Schalke 04 winger Rabbi Matondo has found a new club in Scotland. The 26‑year‑old Welsh international signs for Hibernian FC until the end of the 2026/27 season.
New contract and manager praise
Hibernian announced the signing officially on Wednesday. The club also has an option to extend the contract by another year.
Coach Marink Reedijk said he was impressed by Matondo’s performance in the trial training. “He immediately made an impression, showed a great attitude and a willingness to learn,” Reedijk said.
Reedijk expects the quick attacking player to provide mainly pace and cutting power on the flanks. Matondo is supposed to give the Edinburgh side new impetus.
Previously, Matondo was active at Norwegian top‑flight club SK Brann, where his spell ended after a few months. Before that he had already played for the Glasgow Rangers and briefly for Hannover 96.
At Schalke 04 he arrived in early 2019 from Manchester City’s youth academy, made 32 league appearances and scored two goals. He now returns to Scotland to revive his career.
