Considerable Brazilian offer tempts Jamie Vardy as West Ham linger for the 39‑year‑old striker

The 39‑year‑old Jamie Vardy is in early talks with Brazilian giants Sao Paulo, after receiving a considerable offer, while West Ham United also hold discussions with the former England striker, according to reports published on 16 August 2026 and the negotiations are still in their infancy.

Negotiations are in the early stages, and the offer is described as considerable by sources. Sao Paulo is one of Brazil's biggest clubs and has just emerged from a transfer embargo.

The 39‑year‑old Vardy is weighing the ambitious move despite having initially planned a fairytale return to the Premier League. He remains open to options in both England and abroad.

The former England striker has also spoken to West Ham United among others. West Ham also remain in talks with the striker.

Vardy says he wants to take his time to make the right decision for his family, recalling that they felt rushed into his move to Cremonese last year. He had an option to stay for another season with the Lombardy outfit had they remained in Serie A.

As a free agent, Vardy can join clubs outside of the transfer window, but he hopes to decide before then. He can sign at any time because he is not bound by the window.

Vardy ended his 13‑season spell at Leicester, the Foxes, at the close of the 2024‑25 campaign, and is regarded as the club's greatest‑ever player.

He scored his 200th goal for Leicester in the dying stages of that season, after announcing his departure in April of the previous year.

During Leicester's golden spell in the 2010s, Vardy helped the club win the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Championship twice.
