Conflicting reports cast doubt on Malick Fofana's Roma move

French media now question Fabrizio Romano’s claim that 21‑year‑old striker Malick Fofana of Olympique Lyon is close to a personal agreement with AS Roma, noting that the transfer appears far less imminent than suggested in recent reports over the past few days.

Romano reported that the 21‑year‑old attacker was heading towards a personal accord with the Italianen, implying a swift departure from Lyon.

Contradictory signals from French press

and MadeInFoot, however, say the situation is different and that no concrete negotiations between the clubs have taken place.

De French outlet adds that the entourage of the Belg has sent mixed messages, possibly to pressure Lyon into cooperating.

Roc Nation, the agency representing Fofana, is said to play a significant role in the ongoing reporting about the potential transfer.

Financial stakes and transfer timing

There is also doubt whether Roma can meet the asking price of about 45 million euros, a figure that has been cited as the club’s target fee.

Fofana himself remains open to a move but is currently focusing entirely on his duties at Lyon.

Lyon has decided that key players, including Fofana, may not leave before the return leg against Fenerbahçe in the Champions League play‑offs on Wednesday, a match that could bring at least 23 million euros from group‑stage placement.

Only after the two‑leg tie does the club expect to have room to discuss outgoing transfers seriously.

For now speculation continues, but the transfer to Roma looks less concrete than initially reported, and the outcome after the crucial return match will reveal whether the Italianen will push forward and whether Fofana will officially register with his new club.
