Como secures Nico Paz for €60m as Real Madrid keeps future buy‑back

Nico Paz will remain at Italian side Como after the club secured his services for a reported €60 million fee, while Real Madrid retained an €80 million buy‑back clause that can be activated in 2027. The move follows a collapsed return to Real Madrid earlier this summer, as confirmed by his father Pablo Paz.

Real Madrid were prepared to integrate Nico Paz into their first team this summer, even envisaging a starting role. However, a managerial change and Jose Mourinho’s insistence on a new midfield signing led the Argentine‑born player to reject a bench‑warming position, causing the deal to collapse.

Pablo Paz explained that his son’s priority was to remain at Como, where he aspires to compete in the UEFA Champions League. He added that the club’s atmosphere, the coaching staff led by Cesc Fabregas, and the project in the city convinced Nico that staying was the best choice.

After the collapse, Real Madrid exercised a buy‑back option, repurchased the player from Como and immediately placed him on the market, allowing the Italian side to acquire him for a €60 million fee. The Spanish club retained an €80 million buy‑back clause that can be triggered in 2027.

When asked whether a future return to Real Madrid was possible, Pablo Paz said, “Nico might return to Madrid again through a buy‑back clause, but I am extremely happy. He cares deeply about this club, and he feels a great love and overwhelming happiness in staying at Como.”

Despite Mourinho’s decisive role in halting the summer move, the club’s hierarchy still views Paz as a prospective asset, noting his development under Cesc Fabregas’ guidance. They believe his technical quality and impact remain undeniable.
