Como's Champions League debut astonishes, United overwhelms newcomer

On Thursday evening the Italian debutants Como faced the Champions League at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, where they overwhelmed the experienced RB Leipzig; Martin Baturina opened the match with the first CL‑goal for Como. At the same time Manchester United in Manchester left the newcomer Sabah behind with a comfortable lead.

Como's surprising Champions League‑debut

Coach Cesc Fàbregas saw his side lead 2‑0 within fifteen minutes thanks to an assist from Baturina to Anastasios Douvikas. After the break Assane Diao provided a third goal, after which Andrija Maksimovic scored the equaliser for Leipzig. In the final minutes Máximo Perrone sealed the final score at three goals for Como.

For Dutch viewers the match is followed with extra interest, as Como will then face Feyenoord in the next CL‑round. PSV will take on RB Leipzig in the subsequent stage.

Manchester United overwhelms newcomer

In Manchester Matheus Cunha, Bruno Fernandes and Benjamin Sesko each scored once, giving United a 3‑0 lead at half‑time. In the second half Joshua Zirkzee came close to a goal, but Lisandro Martínez added the fourth strike. The match was played at Manchester United and United therefore secured a comfortable victory over the Azerbaijani club Sabah.

Bayern Munich did not experience debutant stress and took the match against the NEC‑giant Bodø/Glimt with a monster score, with Jamal Musiala, Harry Kane, Alphonso Davies and Michael Olise all finding the net. Vincent Kompany started on the bench, while Ismael Saibari later entered the field. The Norwegian goalkeeper Nikita Haikin was replaced early in the second half by Julian Faye Lund.

In the final phase of the match between Slavia Prague and RC Lens Mikulas Konecny was sent off with a red card, after which Danijel Sturm scored twice for the Czech side. Abdallah Sima equalised for Lens, but Florian Thauvin and Ruben Aguilar secured the winning three points for France in injury time. Slavia Prague will then play the duel against Sabah, while Lens will take on Sporting Portugal.
