Como pushes Leipzig coach Demichelis to the brink in the league

On the shore of Lake Como, in the sparkling backdrop of Como, RB Leipzig experienced a night to forget on Tuesday evening, as the players already in the first half did not show the necessary height. The pressure on coach Martin Demichelis grew, while the duel of the investor clubs highlighted clear limits.

Clear winner in the duel of the investor clubs

Como, the upstart from the region, emerged as the clear winner in the duel of the investor clubs. In the Champions League the team from Como revealed the limits that Leipzig has not yet been able to surpass. Seven years ago the club was still a fourth‑tier side, today it dominated the game. The name Comer appears in some reports, but the team remains the same.

Pressure on Demichelis after second defeat

The pressure on coach Martin Demichelis grew after the second consecutive defeat. After a 1‑3 loss to Bremen on Saturday Leipzig again found itself with a defeat. The second loss increased the criticism of the club's new coach.

In the first half the Leipzig players lacked the necessary height. With only forty percent possession at the break the team looked passive, the passing speed and coordination remained too weak. The half‑time clearly showed that the team was not at the required level.

The goals fell almost exclusively for Como. Martin Baturina scored in the 15th minute, Tasos Douvikas added in the 38th, Assane Diao brought the result to 3‑0 with 54 % in the 54th minute, and Maximo Perrone sealed the victory in the 90th minute. The only goal for Leipzig came from Andrija Maksimovic in the 58th minute.

Leipzig's chances remained unused. After a good spell the team missed a double chance to equalise, and a shot from Andrija Maksimovic was saved by Jean Butez. As the defence weakened, the result stayed unchanged.
