Como agree £30m deal for Chelsea star defender Chalobah
Como have agreed a deal worth more than £30m to sign Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah, reports. The 27‑year‑old will join the Italian club on a long‑term contract and is expected to assume a leadership role.
Chelsea will receive an initial £25.7m, with a further £5.1m available in add‑ons, bringing the total package close to the club’s asking price of £30m plus £5m in add‑ons.
Former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas has been keen to sign Chalobah and had been targeting the England international for more than six months, seeing him as a key figure for the squad.
Chalobah will leave his boyhood club after nearly 20 years, having joined Chelsea as a child and developing into a senior England international before the move.
Inter count on Calha's return as Serie A restarts on Saturday
The Italian side secured Champions League qualification by finishing fourth in Serie A last season, prompting manager Fabregas to add experience and leadership to a side now competing in Europe.
For Como, the defender provides both defensive solidity and a veteran presence, addressing the club’s ambition to strengthen its back line ahead of the Champions League campaign.
Chelsea’s decision forms part of an effort by new manager Xabi Alonso to reduce the size of his squad, with the transfer helping to offload a player who has been at the club since childhood.
The Blues have also signed Maxence Lacroix, 26, from Crystal Palace for £52m, and still retain nine senior centre‑backs, including Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana and Axel Disasi, indicating a broader reshuffle of defensive personnel.
Multiple offers dating back from early June, alongside interest from Inter, highlight the market demand for Chalobah and show that the final agreement aligns closely with Chelsea’s original valuation.
