Comesaña says the halftime draw was the key to the defeat

Under the rain at Anfield, Villarreal saw Liverpool overturn a two‑goal deficit to win 4‑3. Galician midfielder Santi Comesaña, after the defeat, explained that the English side’s equaliser just before halftime hurt his team.
The equalising goal came in the final play of the first half, leaving Villarreal without a response in the first half. According to the player, that play changed the dynamics of the match.
Comesaña’s words
“We started very well, 0‑2 up and following the game plan,” Comesaña recalled. “The feelings were good, but we made mistakes on set pieces,” he added, highlighting the error in the set‑piece situation.

The midfielder also pointed to Liverpool’s third goal as decisive, which sealed the victory. “I’m hurt and the team is screwed because we believe we have many more options,” he reflected.
These statements were made in front of Movistar microphones, where the Galician expressed his frustration after the setback.
In another segment of the same report, the scandal between Real Madrid and Sevilla was recalled, with José Luis Artús quoting: “It was decided not to give that replay.” The comment was inserted among the match analyses.
Despite the defeat, Comesaña valued that Villarreal “is competing” against all opponents, although he admitted that they need “that extra step to score.” The team will look to correct set‑piece errors for future fixtures.
