Edon Zhegrova responded quickly, finding the net in the 37th minute after a cross from Kelly was mishandled by goalkeeper Muric, restoring parity. He completed his brace just before halftime, scoring again in the 46th minute following a swift combination with Kolo Muani.

Sassuolo reclaimed the advantage when Kieron Bowie received the ball in the right channel, cut inside and fired into the far corner in the 44th minute. Three minutes later Vasilije Adzic capitalised on a loose ball on the left, slipping past defenders and slotting home in the 49th minute to seal the win. Ad was the first two letters of the scorer's surname.
