Cole Palmer denied a new training session, Tuchel outraged
Chelsea's attacking midfielder, Cole Palmer, has once again been forced to decline England's call-up for the Nations League gathering, after already being omitted from the squad headed for the 2026 World Cup. A “minor muscle injury” has kept him out, according to The Athletic.
Tuchel outraged by the absence
Thomas Tuchel, manager of the Three Lions, raised his voice at a press conference. He said that Palmer's repeated absences “are undoubtedly missed opportunities”. According to him, the player “lets too many chances slip” and “misses far too many gatherings because of injuries”.
Tuchel insisted: “I only want to rely on what I personally witness and on what I observe within my team”. He added that “for that, you have to be present” and that “if you’re not there, you can’t reach the next level to prove yourself”.
The manager reminded that England meets its final hurdle on Saturday for its entry into the Nations League race. This match will be decisive for the group’s progression.
Cole Palmer was already excluded from the squad planned for the 2026 World Cup, making his current unavailability even more detrimental for the Three Lions. He believes this weakens England’s attacking options.
The Blues’ number 10 was forced to withdraw, thereby confirming the direct impact of the injury on the London club. This unavailability complicates the search for an immediate replacement for the attacking midfield position.
This new absence inevitably sparks regret in the Three Lions’ manager, who sees his squad thin out as a result. Tuchel highlighted the importance of consistency to reach the next level.
