Clubless ex‑Bayern star close to signing, father reports interest
The 34-year-old, currently clubless former Bayern star David Alaba is, according to his father, close to a new contract signing. George Alaba, who is also the advisor of the former Real and Bayern defence, confirmed to the Kronen Zeitung that a signature could come soon.
Father gives insight into negotiations
As Alaba's father George told the newspaper, there have been “numerous inquiries” from around the world. “In the USA, in Europe, everywhere,” said Alaba Senior, highlighting the broad international demand. He emphasized that his son would not lack any potential employers.
He also dismissed the concerns of some fans and assured that Alaba's career will not end prematurely. “It goes on, I know that. He will continue the whole thing,” he explained, to allay the supporters' worries.
Potential suitors and previous stops
Most recently, Alaba was under contract with Real Madrid, but the Spanish record champions did not extend the partnership beyond the summer due to ongoing injury problems. Since then, the Austrian defender has been clubless and therefore free of a transfer fee for any interested club.
According to his father, Union Berlin has already lost interest, while Club America from Mexico and his youth club Austria Wien were also mentioned. “David has received calls. They want him, he wants it too, but at the moment it is a bit too early for him,” George said about the interest from Vienna.
In his career, Alaba played from 2008 to 2021 for FC Bayern Munich, apart from a loan year at TSG Hoffenheim. With the Bavarian record champions he made 431 league appearances, scored 33 goals and provided 55 assists, won the Champions League twice and lifted the cup twice. He then moved to the Royal side in Madrid, where, despite two La Liga titles, injuries saw his playing time become increasingly scarce. His last league match for Real was in May last year, a 4‑2 victory over Atlético Club.
Alaba also featured for Austria at the 2022 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico. George Alaba announced that his son would “announce soon” how things will proceed, and emphasized that he is “doing excellently”.
