Cliftonville widen eight‑point lead as title race tightens
Cliftonville secured a 3‑1 victory over Lisburn Rangers at Solitude on Friday, extending the Reds' advantage at the summit of the Women's Premiership to eight points. The win brings the champions‑to‑be within striking distance of the title, pending Glentoran's result on Sunday.
Goal spree fuels Reds' surge
Teegan Lynch opened the scoring from the penalty spot inside the first half hour. Caitlin McGuinness added a superb strike from the edge of the box shortly after. Louise McDaniel doubled the lead in the 76th minute, while Abbie Smyth grabbed a consolation in the final minute.
The victory stretched the Reds' lead at the top to eight points over nearest challengers Glentoran. The Glens travel to Linfield at the Blanchflower Stadium on Sunday afternoon, seeking to close the gap.
Cliftonville will be crowned champions if Glentoran fail to beat their Belfast rivals in that encounter. The title race therefore hinges on the Sunday result.
Elsewhere at Seaview, Crusaders Strikers edged Larne Women 3‑2 in an entertaining game. Emilee Leacock put the Strikers ahead on 34 minutes, Chloe Doak levelled after the break, Jessica Rea restored the lead, Rachel Dennison equalised again and Mia Reilly scored the decisive goal eight minutes from time.
At Limavady Showgrounds, Derry City and Lisburn Ladies drew 3‑3 in another six‑goal thriller. Chelsea Sheerin and Chelsea Scott gave Derry a two‑goal lead, Jessica Hall pulled one back, Scott struck again before half‑time and Lisburn fought back through Stacey Murdough and Sidra Younes Alsaidi to earn a point.
