Clasico sees Mbappé's double lift Real Madrid at Camp Nou

In a dramatic Clasico at the Camp Nou, Real Madrid secured a 2‑1 victory over Barça thanks to a Kylian Mbappé double, while Andriy Lunin stood in goal for the visitors as Thibaut Courtois remained sidelined with illness on Sunday in the league.

Real Madrid generated the first chances of the match, with Joan García making an early save to keep the score level. Before the half‑hour mark, right‑back Xavi Espart limped off injured and was replaced by Alejandro Balde. The Clásico proved a showcase of individual brilliance.

The visitors broke the deadlock shortly before the interval. A swift attack saw Gerard Martín's cross land at Mbappé's feet, the ball looping past Joan García into the net. The goal gave Real Madrid a 1‑0 lead at the Camp Nou.

Barça responded quickly when Lamine Yamal found space and struck, only to see his effort sail wide of the frame. The second half began with both sides unchanged, the Dutch players remaining on the bench. Mbappé tested the Barcelona defence twice early on but could not find a breakthrough.

Turning points in the match

Raphinha restored parity after just over an hour when a rapid corner produced a powerful strike that Lunin could not halt. The Brazilian's goal made it 1‑1 and shifted momentum toward the home side.

Soon after, Dutch midfielder Dumfries entered the fray, replacing Federico Valverde for his first Clasico appearance. Lunin then produced a spectacular save, denying Barcelona a chance to retake the lead.

Later, De Jong returned after a long World Cup injury, coming on for Fermín López. In the 88th minute, Eduardo Camavinga drove forward and fed Mbappé, who calmly slotted the ball home for the winner. The late strike sealed a 2‑1 win for Real Madrid.

The victory also marked Mbappé's 100th goal for Real Madrid, achieved in just 116 appearances. He now records 114 direct goal contributions, including 14 assists, for the club. Manager José Mourinho celebrated his fifth consecutive win in charge.

Aftermath and league implications

The result left Barça on 27 points at the top of LaLiga, Atlético Madrid on 25 and Real Madrid on 24, narrowing the gap between the three leaders to three points. The win therefore kept the title race tightly contested.

Barça travel to face Deportivo Alavés at home on Saturday 31 October, while Real Madrid head to Racing de Santander the following Sunday. Both clubs will look to build on the recent drama as the season progresses.
