City’s covert chase of Pedro Neto fuels strategic debate
Manchester City are reportedly eyeing a surprise transfer for Chelsea forward Pedro Neto, the 26‑year‑old Portuguese winger who has made 103 Premier League appearances for the Blues, as Enzo Maresca searches for attacking reinforcements and places the player on the club’s shortlist.
City are actively reshaping their wide options. They view Neto as a quick, direct winger with Premier League experience, decent production and enough pedigree to interest an elite side.
The Portuguese winger has contributed 19 goals and 19 assists in his 103 appearances for the Blues.
Chelsea could command a major fee for Neto, and may be prepared to cash in other assets if the numbers suit. Such a fee would potentially free resources for other targets.
With Geovany Quenda and Estevao Willian already in the squad, the club may see this as the right moment to move Neto on and reallocate resources. Malo Gusto has also been mentioned, though City are reportedly reluctant to meet Chelsea’s £75 million valuation for the defender.
For City, the priority is certainty that Neto will materially improve Maresca’s attack, even as doubts linger about whether he is a genuine upgrade. For Chelsea, the move could deliver a sizable fee while allowing the Blues to shift focus to other players, though price, consistency and impact remain key considerations.
