City’s €100m bid rejected, Pavlovic stays at Bayern, Carvajal near Getafe
Manchester City offered €100 million for 22‑year‑old Aleksandar Pavlovic of Bayern Munich, but the midfielder declined and confirmed his intention to remain at the German club. The bid, revealed on Tuesday (6) after the FIFA transfer window closed, underscores the continued activity in the European transfer market.
Why City pursued Pavlovic
City’s director of football Hugo Viana had monitored Pavlovic since March, viewing him as a priority to reshape the midfield after Rodri’s departure to Barcelona. Pavlovic’s profile – defensive protection combined with quality on the ball – was seen as a direct replacement for the Spanish international.
Carvajal’s next chapter
Meanwhile, Daniel Carvajal, the 34‑year‑old right‑back who left Real Madrid at the end of the 2025/26 season, is in advanced talks with Getafe. According to the newspaper ABC, Getafe manager José Bordalás champions the former captain for the experience he would bring to the club, currently sitting 11th in LaLiga.
Carvajal has not played since 23 May, when he bid farewell to fans at the Santiago Bernabéu, and he spent the summer training alone. He was also omitted from the World Cup squad, adding to the urgency of securing a new club.
Bayern’s goalkeeper overhaul
Bayern Munich, with Manuel Neuer now 40 and under contract only until June 2027, is compiling an extensive list of goalkeepers to replace the iconic keeper. Sky Sport reported that the Bavarian side is targeting experienced, leadership‑rich keepers rather than a young challenger for Jonas Urbig.
The shortlist includes Bart Verbruggen (Brighton), Jordan Pickford (Everton), Bernd Leno (Fulham), Oliver Baumann (Hoffenheim), Nick Pope (Newcastle), Juan Musso (Atlético de Madrid), Koen Casteels (Al‑Qadsiah), Kevin Trapp (Paris FC) and Lukas Hradecky (Monaco). Four of these candidates have already featured in the Bundesliga.
Barcelona’s contract roadmap
Barcelona have confirmed the renewal of Raphinha until June 2030 and have identified the next two players to extend their contracts. Brazilian forward Gerard Martín and defender Brian Fariñas are set to sign new deals lasting until June 2028,
Martín has become a regular starter alongside Pau Cubarsí, while Fariñas impressed Hansi Flick during pre‑season with his versatility, despite not yet debuting this campaign.
