City locks in Uzbek defender Khusanov as Maresca’s long‑term pillar

Manchester City have secured Uzbek centre‑back Abdukodir Khusanov on a ten‑year, €40 million contract, a move designed to plug a long‑term defensive gap as the club begins the Enzo Maresca era. The English side confirmed the deal on Saturday, tying the 22‑year‑old defender to the squad through the 2030‑31 campaign.

The €40 million fee underlines City’s commitment and the agreement runs for ten years, binding Khusanov to Manchester City until the 2030‑31 season.

After Phil Foden’s new deal was announced earlier in the week, the extension follows, marking the second major contract renewal for City in just a few days.

City said the signing addresses its need for a long‑term defensive pillar as it embarks on the Maresca era, reinforcing the back line under the new head coach.

Khusanov arrived from RC Lens in January 2025 for a €40 million fee, joining the squad as a 22‑year‑old centre‑back and becoming one of the few Uzbek internationals in the English Premier League.

Since his arrival, the young defender has quickly grown in stature and earned a reputation as a promising defensive asset within the English side.

He will now work under Enzo Maresca, Pep Guardiola’s successor, who is seeking to solidify the back line.

Manchester City’s official statement on Saturday highlighted the long‑term nature of the deal and confirmed Khusanov’s commitment to the club until 2031.

The long‑term contract locks Khusanov in for the foreseeable future, giving City stability while it builds its defensive core and providing a clear roadmap for upcoming seasons.
