Ciro Immobile takes new role at Italian federation after retirement

After his retirement, which came as a surprise for the former BVB‑flop Ciro Immobile, he immediately takes on the role of delegation manager at the Italian federation, thus staying in football. The 34‑year‑old former striker, who spent years hunting goals in Serie A, now returns to Italy to support the U16‑national team.

In Serie A he spent years hunting goals and established himself as a consistent scorer. Despite this career he never became a top‑star, which is why he is often described as a one‑time BVB‑flop.

Most recently he was in France, where he scored two goals and provided two assists in 13 matches before ending his career in the summer. The former striker thus concluded an eventful career marked by highs and lows.

New role at the Italian federation

As announced by the federation of the four‑time world champion, Immobile is from now on the delegation manager of the U16‑national team. Already next week he will support head coach Giovanni Constantino in the international fixtures on September 15 and 17 against Italy and Spain. The role includes coordinating training camps and looking after the young players.

“It feels like now is the right moment to give something back to football, after it has given me so much throughout my career,” said the former striker. Fu is for him a symbol of passion.

Return to football after BVB‑stint

The president of the Italian federation Giovanni Malagò explained the appointment: “Choosing Ciro Immobile as the delegation manager of the U16 means giving our young players the chance to work with someone who truly embodies what it means to wear the Azzurri shirt.” As he emphasized, this is a gain for the future.

Surprisingly, Immobile ended his career in the summer, but for BVB he scored ten goals in 34 matches in the 2014/15 season – a tally that will be remembered for a long time.

For the U16‑team and the Italian federation his experience represents a valuable contribution, and the coming weeks will show how he will shape the young talents.
