Circulatory problems solved – BVB star Karetsas ready for the national team
In the Westfalenstadion, where the lights over the pitch flickered, BVB star Karetsas celebrated his comeback on Saturday, September 19. At the same time, the report about circulatory problems clarified the national team question, whether the 18‑year‑old Greek would travel to the national team in the coming days. The decision came after a short break due to dehydration.
After the shock moment in his Champions League debut against FC Villareal, Karetsas was diagnosed with dehydration that cost him a match. In the next game against VfB Stuttgart he returned in the 62nd minute for Ethan Nwaneri and made an immediate impact, freeing Jobe Bellingham after eight minutes and supplying Maximilian Beier, who scored the winning goal.
National team nomination confirmed
The Greek football association confirmed on Sunday morning, September 20, the nomination of 18‑year‑old Konstantinos Karetsas for the upcoming international matches. Coach Ivan Jovanovic thus firmly placed the young attacking player in the squad, meaning he will have to face his BVB teammates in the next two weeks.
After the away match against Serbia on September 24, three days later comes the duel with Germany, where Karetsas could meet Nico Schlotterbeck, Felix Nmecha and Waldemar Anton. On October 1, the home game against the Netherlands with Joey Veermann is scheduled, before three days later another encounter with the German side of Jürgen Klopp is planned.
The barely half‑hour of action on the field apparently was enough to demonstrate his fitness for the national team. The clear confirmation from the national side underscores that the circulatory problems have been fully overcome.
