Christos Kostoglou joins PAOK Thessaloniki on a free transfer

Borussia Dortmund has, midway through the ongoing season, transferred the 17‑year‑old midfielder Christos Kostoglou on a free transfer to the Greek top‑flight club PAOK Thessaloniki. Contract and Free Transfer

According to the Greek report, the move is on a free transfer. The 17‑year‑old Christos Kostoglou signs a three‑year contract in Thessaloniki that binds him to the top‑flight club in the long term. This leaves the BVB on the transfer market without a transfer fee, while PAOK Thessaloniki gains a young midfielder.

Christos Kostoglou arrived in the summer of 2023 from Borussia Mönchengladbach to Borussia Dortmund and has since progressed through Dortmund’s youth departments. For the U17 he played 24 official matches, for the U19 seven appearances, three of which came in the current season. Most recently he was part of the BVB‑U19 squad before making the move.

Interestingly, Kostoglou already played in the PAOK youth system at the age of seven, so the club is already familiar with him. The 17‑year‑old therefore follows the reverse path of Giannis Konstantelias, who moved from PAOK to Borussia Dortmund last summer. In Greece, Kostoglou is now expected to become the long‑term successor of the former fan favourite.

For the young player, the mid‑season transfer represents a fresh start at PAOK Thessaloniki. The BVB can thereby free up a spot in the U19 squad and focus on further talents.
