Christopher Nkunku accepts decision, returns to Leipzig

The French striker Christopher Nkunku has, after only one season at AC Milan, returned to RB Leipzig on loan with an option to buy at the end of August and officially emphasizes that he cannot yet understand the decision that ended his chapter in Italy.

Decision and Reaction

At the press conference before RB Leipzig's Champions League match against Como, Nkunku explained that one can respect a decision without understanding it. “To respect a decision, you don’t always have to understand it. Everything happened suddenly. I myself did not expect it,” quoted the French newspaper L’Équipe. The Frenchman made no secret that the way his chapter in Italy ended strongly surprised him.

He admitted that to this day he does not know exactly why he suddenly is no longer part of Rúben Amorim’s plans. “I can’t explain it. I had a season where I played regularly and had no injury problems,” he added. His statements show that he sees no fault in his performance.

Nkunku did not want to openly criticize AC Milan. “I can’t tell you why, because I myself did not understand Milan’s decision. I respect it and wish Milan a good season,” he emphasized. With that he concluded his farewell to AC Milan.

Return and Previous Record

The transfer was completed at the end of August; Nkunku returned to RB Leipzig on loan with an option to buy. At that time he faced the decision of choosing between offers. He said he had other options, but returning here was a priority for him. “I had other options, but returning here was a priority for me,” he explained.

Between 2019 and 2023 he already played for RB Leipzig and made 172 appearances, scoring 70 goals. This record underscores his importance to the club. His experience is expected to benefit Leipzig in the new season.

Although he regrets the departure from Milan, he remains confident that he will be successful again at Leipzig. He respects the decision and wishes the Italian club continued success.
