Chivu doubts his own approach after painful 3‑4 defeat to Brugge
In the chilly evening air of San Siro the cheers of Club Brugge rang out when Nicolò Tresoldi found the net three times and Romeo Vermant scored the fourth goal, leaving Inter confronted with a 3‑4 defeat. The Romanians, Cristian Chivu, stood alone on the pitch after the match and took full responsibility for the disappointment.
Own mistakes and missed break
Chivu admitted that during the break he should have conveyed more calm and composure to his players. He explained that Inter responded well in the first half to the first equaliser, but the unrest after the pause led to a loss of balance and overly large distances when pressing.
The coach specifically pointed to the wrong presses and the long distances between the lines, which allowed Brugge to exploit speed on the flanks and technical qualities. “We lost our balance and the distances when pressing,” he analysed.

No excuses, but a call for recovery
Despite the defeat Chivu praised the intensity, personality and technical qualities of the visitors, and emphasized that the opponent deserved credit. He pointed out that Inter cannot be satisfied with the number of goals conceded and that both tactical and mental adjustments are needed.
After two consecutive defeats in the Champions League he warned that confidence in the team must not disappear. “We must especially not lose confidence in ourselves,” he said, while naming the six remaining group matches in Milan as crucial moments to find answers.
