Chiellini chooses Juventus over Italy technical director speculation

Juventus executive Giorgio Chiellini says he is happy with his role at the Allianz Stadium and will not consider the Italy technical director job, confirming his focus remains on Juventus’ future. He emphasized his commitment to supporting club president and sporting director Carnevali as the team prepares for the upcoming season.

Chiellini emerged as a possible candidate for the Italy national team technical director role after Paolo Maldini and Leonardo resigned on Monday. Their departures opened a vacancy that media outlets linked to the former defender.

He arrived at the FIGC headquarters in Rome for a federal meeting on Tuesday morning, where he reiterated his commitment to Juventus. The meeting is focused on appointing a new head coach for ITALY’s national side.

“I just want to address some recent news from the media,” he said. He used the opportunity to clarify his stance on the speculation.

“I’m really happy with my role at Juventus, supporting Carnevali and the club now and in the future.” The statement underscored his satisfaction with his duties at the Allianz Stadium.

Chiellini currently serves as Juventus’ Chief Club Affairs Officer. The former defender captained Italy at the 2021 Euros under Roberto Mancini, a tournament the Azzurri won. His playing career spanned both Juventus and the Italy national team.

Maldini and Leonardo resigned on Monday after FIGC President Giovanni Malagò refused to confirm Andrea Pirlo’s appointment, citing a political controversy. Malagò’s main candidate for the vacant position remains Roberto Mancini, who is expected to be proposed as Italy’s new head coach during the ongoing federal meeting.
